I have just learnt that someone is willing to give up their weekend to marshal at farleigh for genuine love of the sport, only to be told, that its "first come first serve" and names are not being taken....when in reality, names ARE being taken.

I have to say that I am really disappointed. I was prepared to travel the 5 hours myself just to spectate this event...not now.

To those organisers of this event(i know who you are), all i want to say is,

Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Feel free to respond to this.

I have just found a great 1988 RM 250J for Farleigh Castle, has had very little use for last twenty years and is great condition, (still has original slingshot sticker on tank).
Bought about 6 weeks ago, since purchasing I have checked the top end, repacked the silencer, replaced all fluids, new tyres, tubes, bars, grips, brake pads, chains and sprockets etc, and had the suspension serviced
The only thing that was non standard was the carb which looked to have been messed around a lot, worn jets and rubber hose spacers on carb.

When I first rode it the bike was very smoky and wouldn't pull properly on top, gradually throughout the day it improved as we played with the air screw and throttle position but was still a little rich on top and smoked visibly at all times when ridden.

On that day I was using Putoline MX 7 at 30/1 with Shell top quality unleaded.

To try and have things ready for Farleigh I have since sourced a brand new carb with the standard jets fitted, and replaced the fuel with a 40/1 mixture.
It still seems very rich.

My question is was this a problem with these bikes, a friend who had one in 88 said his always smoked, but others have said modern fuel is poor and that I need a much leaner main jet?

Any sensible suggestions apreciated.

Check out these retro style designs on modern bikes. I think the Yamaha 2 stroke looks really cool.

Read on MXA website that the reason the original YZ came with a tank strap was when the Jones family who did the early proto-typing in USA, they broke a tank mounting lug, so father Don Jones fastened the tank on with an old belt. It was recalled back to Japan to put into production and came back with the classic strap holding on tank early Yamaha's were famed for.
Don't know if this is a folklore story Jody has spun, but sounds plausable!

he wants to but the costs involved in doing a mag was very expensive and he needs companies to help finance it with adverts
There are a couple of people whom want to have an advert in it ,It is not expensive so pm him or me and maybe we could have a new mag for Telford for the show or even before
we all know the last one was excellent so the quality will be the same if not better :o;)
