I met Darren Malin at the Liverpool supercross (I was promoting Cobra) I also raced against him in the 80's. Not sure what hes doing for a living but his young lad Brad is winning fairly regular in the 65's up and down the country.

One of the first 'amazing' moments in MX for me includes Paul Malin- Way back in '93 or '94 at Canada Heights 'early birds'....... when the track had the 3 steps down the hill, & this particular year they were riding down them.
In practice I was stood at the top of the steps, & Malin came up the straight, clutch lever clipping the paling fencing, squared off the corner, & drove 3rd gear hard off the top step to make the 'double'- AMAZING!! For me anyway when I was 12-13 yrs old!
He didn't do it every lap, & I believe later in the day Herring & possibly others done it aswell, but Malin was the first that I saw, I was in awe, & will never forget it!

Was anyone at any of the 500 GP's in 91,92 when Maler was wringing the KX500 ?

I had rob walters build me a KX500 SR in the early 90's, I had nothing but trouble with it as I later found out rob didnt upgrade the rads so I did a barrel a week!! anyway when mine was away I had no bike for a qualifier and the late great DOUG HACKING lent me one of Malins genuine ex factory SR's, It had a 4 speed box and despite the look and the power I hated every minute of it so fair play to Malin cos I dont know how he rode it never mind won on it....

He won the second race in 1990 after Thropey one the first won. Thorpey pulled out of the second race after a first lap coming together with Jo Martens that damaged his front brake.
