All 125's are about the same you get the odd ones that just have problems from day one but most are pretty good, all 125's should be maintained well eg piston changes etc you shouldn't just wait until it goes bang then rebuild it it would end up doing more damage and you will be landed with a big bill.
Everyone has there favourite bike make and i guess its a Honda guy that's told you this info on them being better. Id just pick a colour go with what you fancy and what you can afford usually KTM's are more expensive as they come with more goodies, i ride a Kawasaki wouldn't ride any other 4 stroke but if i had to go 2 stroke it would be a KTM or TM, partly because i like the look of them and you pay a bit more than jap makes but you get alot more bike and don't need to spend money on performance parts.
