I get the hand cramps in the first session of riding if i havent ridden in a while. After a few laps i stop and stretch my hands out thoroughly and then ride with a loser grip on the bars and it doesnt come back unless i grip too tight again

Ive tried changing grips, handlebars, levers, gloves with more padding, using hand grips to train up the muscles all no good. Basically what we are doing is holding the grips too tightly when going over jumps or up any steep banks we are riding wrong. i ride a road bike daily to work and back and i get no pain at all, but when i first started i used to get pain. You simply start to relax as you become more experienced. Im quite a beginner but picking it up well, Ive now started using my knees more as im told this will help also but all in all im told i just need loads of riding time and the more experience i get the more il train my hands to it, i will relax more when riding and use straights, big jumps and different points on the track as brief points to rest your grip. Just have a break and get back out there somepeople dont get it because they are just more relaxed riding its just the way they ride they are fortunate. We dont get armpump yet others really suffer from it, its all diff styles of riding. carphole tunnelling is an operation you get if you lose feeling in your fingertips or pins and needles constantly normally caused by using vibration equipment for many years use like newmatic drills road workers etc some people at my work have had it but from years of working on the roads and not wearing anti vibration gloves. |

Have you considered your helmet?
If a helmet is too tight in a certain area or does not fit your head well it may cause head aches... Check for red marks when you take it off |

I suffer from this from time to time but it is due to a hand injury which made my tendons retract. The tendons in your arms stretch into ,and join the finger and thumb the way to stop cramp/hand,arm pump is to warm them up before rideing .Stretch your fingers by putting your hand on a flat surface and rolling your wrist up until you feel a bit of pull in the palm of your hand, this is srretching the tendons and loosening them or warming up.This was one of the exersises given to me by a physio to boost hand movement and free the muscle up in my hands .
